The global vision care industry is approximately 54 billon dollars and growing. The U.S. Vision Correction population (those requiring correction of refractive error) has shown steady growth and is expected to accelerate as the bulk of the Baby Boomers enter their presbyopic years. Almost everybody (93%) on the planet over the age of 45 suffer from presbyopia. Presbyopia occurs when the eye can no longer easily and clearly focus on close objects.

Every year there are an estimated 50 million new presbyopic people in the world. Today, in the U.S. alone, 136 million American adults wear prescription eyewear. This is 66% of the adult population: 43% men and 57% women.  In 2004 there where approximately 18-20 million pairs of progressive addition lenses sold in the US alone.

In addition, there are approximately 80 million eye exams performed in the U.S. and an estimated 200 million worldwide every year.
