JOB SUMMARY:

The Design Engineer will develop the lens features, tooling, and fixtures needed to manufacture emPower ophthalmic lenses.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will have 10 years experience in the ophthalmic lens industry with working knowledge in the following areas:

1.      Design of tooling, fixtures and mechanisms

2.      Tolerance analysis

3.      Development of equipment for lens production

4.      Coordination with fabricators and vendors

5.      Automation and material handling systems for lenses

6.      Yield and quality improvement and cost reduction

7.      Process problem solving and improvement

 

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      Ability to exhibit strong organizational skills.

2.      Ability to communicate in an effective manner.

3.      Ability to exhibit strong time management skills.

4.      Ability to prioritize projects and process multiple tasks as required with minimal supervision.

5.      Ability to monitor the quality, cost and efficiency of all processes.

6.      Ability to analyze logistical problems and produce and document new solutions.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

1.      An engineering or science degree is preferred

2.      10+ years experience working in ophthalmic lens production.

REASONING ABILITY:

1.      Ability to define problems, solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

2.      Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

3.      Ability to exhibit an awareness of and strategic response to external influences.

4.      Ability to use SPC and other Six Sigma tools to assure Process Excellence.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

1.      Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, professional journals and technical procedures.

2.      Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and business processes.   

3.      Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
