Job Title Optical Technician

 JOB SUMMARY:

Working with Operations and Research/Development the Optical Technician is responsible for performing a variety of routine duties in the areas of optical, mechanical, and functional operations and maintenance as it relates to optical laboratory processing.  Responsibilities include determining operations required to produce a variety of ophthalmic products and develop processes to ensure quality, cost, and efficiency targets are met.  Optical Technician will participate in problem solving with respect to production and development to take corrective actions and establish stable, efficient production processes.  Optical Technician will also be responsible for conducting research/development protocols and data collection.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Optical Technicians will acquire and maintain a detailed understanding of the product, development, and equipment for all operations processes.  Optical Technicians will execute daily production plans while maintaining high quality.  Optical Technicians will ensure that established production goals and standards are met.  Optical Technicians are responsible for performing necessary routine maintenance, including planning and tracking.  Controlling the use of supplies, and tools to meet established timelines as well as ensuring proper functioning. 

Optical Technician will maintain all operations processes and equipment in accordance with established company policies and procedures.  Perform and document equipment repairs, testing, and calibrations.  Assure that products meet all applicable performance specifications and regulatory compliance requirements.  Assist with root cause determinations and quality analysis.  Contribute to departmental process improvement/capability.  Any other tasks as assigned from time to time as requested.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have 10 years+ experience in ophthalmic lens fabrication and knowledge of ophthalmic lens dispensing.

  2. Ability to exhibit strong organizational skills.

  3. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner, understands material, take corrective action directives.

  4. Ability to exhibit strong time management skills.

  5. Ability to prioritize projects and process multiple tasks as required with minimal supervision.

  6. Ability to monitor the quality, cost and efficiency of all operations processes and recommend improvements.

  7. Ability to complete routine equipment calibrations and maintenance within the company’s established policies and procedures.

  8. Ability to work as a liaison between Operations and all other departmental groups.

  9. Ability to analyze logistical problems and produce and document new solutions.

  10. Ability to maintain records and documentation pertaining to all processes, protocols, testing methods, equipment, and tools.

  11. Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.

  12. Ability to apply intermediate to advance level skills with MS Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must have High School diploma or equivalent GED; in addition to 10 years related experience and/or training.

  2. Ability to demonstrate a high level of planning, organizational, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

  3. Knowledge and experience with all Surface and Finish Optical Lab equipment.

  4. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of safety and environmental requirements.

  5. Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills.

LANUAGE SKILLS:

  1. Ability to communicate with others in an effective and concise manner.

  2. Ability to understand complex technical information, and translate this information into relevant business terms and concepts.

  3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, Customer Service Associates, Distribution Associates, and customers.

  4. Ability to develop concise and up-to-date procedural documentation.

MATHMATICS SKILLS:

  1. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as Rx transposition, Prentice’s Rule and Sagitta Formula.

  2. Simple mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Ability to define problems; solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  2. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  3. Ability to exhibit an awareness of and strategic response to external influences.
